Yep, did that already with a F250 optioned like mine and loved it except for the slow performance.
I absolutely HATE the new F150. I won't buy an aluminum truck. Only expensive sports/lux cars are made out of aluminum and they have very little hard use and winters on them. I won't be sold on it until maybe after 6 years 'if' the aluminum handles good without dissimilar metal corrosion and stress cracks.
I hate to go with GM , and Dodge forgot how to make real trucks, and vehicles that are reliable and safe.
I don't think I could force myself into a weak GVWR Tundra and already owned a POS Titan, NOT AGAIN.
So the F250 was really my only choice for 'new'. I guess I'll try to make my '12 F150 last as that type of mileage and my yearly mileage, will likely break the bank with a F250 6.2L.
Thanks.

Have you considered the 6.7? I was in the same situation a month ago, and was about to order a 2016 6.2L when I found a 2014 used 6.7L I fell in love with.
My MPG has been 18 mixed and IF, key word if, I can keep going 55mph (seems to be the sweet spot on my truck) I was hitting 24mpg. But that was only while going 55, no slower or faster My 5.0 was getting 14 mixed but I have a heavy foot.
I originally wasn't considering diesel because of many reasons. It's a $8k option, extra cost of ownership, I very rarely tow and when I do it's something my 5.0 towed just fine. However I didn't think a used diesel would be in my price range, let alone a King Ranch.
Dealership guys told me to expect as bad as 9mpg with the 6.2, didn't care. Would take that any day over a 2015 F150 aluminum Tundra so I feel your pain on that
I know you want new, and I'm not sure what diesel is where you live. But I would say if you can swing the extra $8k and like the diesel, its worth it in my book and the mileage would be closer to what your 5.0 gets and if diesel is like here, 2.69/g where gas is 3.30/g, its cheaper to drive too.
Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll think about it. I'm not looking to buy now but in the next year or 2. Trying to do my research before I get my mind made up on the wrong decision.

More times than I care to admit I jump too hastily into large decisions such as vehicle payments being double what I was paying. Yes that would be my new truck Still love it though

Thanks guys for all the information. Yes, this is now a 2016 F250 XLT Crew Cab, 4WD, 6.75' bed, 6.2L Gasser with 3.73 locking axle truck I'm looking at. It will have the XLT value package, snow plow package, power sliding rear window/defroster, Electric operated transfer case. Pretty much all the options I have right now on my F150 except the chrome package. Definitely the bigger 18" wheels and snow plow package as the truck has a higher sitting stance with those.
Still hoping to hear from others.
I'm really more concerned with town, mixed, and expressway mileage 'unloaded'. I expect between 8 - 10 mpg while towing.
Thanks again.

In reality, it gets 2-3 less mpg than my 5.0 F150, and tows 50,000 times better, I factored in fuel costs when I bought it, besides, my wife took my F150, so I needed another truck.

Spectragod has got it right!
My best so far empty is 13.8mpg highway @ 70mph but I have the 4.30 gears and it out tows my 5.0L F150 50,000 times better too. Have to remember these are heavier Pickups so it takes more gas to move them compared to a F150 and if you don't want the diesel then the 6.2L will do just fine.
I also have a 3 yr car lease, it avg's 37mpg, the gas money I would of been spending each month on my 16 F350 6.2L pays my lease payment, plus I don't put on all of those everyday miles on the SD, it is only used for towing.

Getting the XLT instead of the Lariat or Platinum will just about pay for the 6.7L Powerstroke. I had no idea what moving up from an XLT would cost until I looked, then got the XLT Powerstroke. It is, after all, a work truck.
How you plan to use it can determine the best engine. Short trips, not much towing, get the 6.2L. Long trips and lots of towing, get the 6.7L.

Hello I have 2014 f250 crew cab fx4 with the 6.2 in it I have had it for 2 yrs only has 12xxx miles on it anyhow on I-25 I get 15.5-16.0 mpg but driving around Colorado Springs I get if I'm lucky 11.0 mpg I never towed anything with it yet. But I'm not worried about fuel mileage I have 14 Ford Fusion for my getting around town car. Great truck I went in buying this telling myself not to get a diesel cause I cannot justify a diesel I don't pull or tow anything..
