Default 1999 7.3 Powerstroke

Hi everyone, I was looking at buying a diesel so I stumbled upon this truck that has paper work for all the jobs claimed to be done on it.

Does anyone have any opinions on these trucks? Or what to look for specifically?

I will be posting more pictures of it with an email he is going to send me, I have until Dec.20th to decide due to him coming through my town.

Is the price fair? What can I expect to get out of that truck?

I was thinking of making a 7g's offer? Is that reasonable or too much?

Looks to be an early 99 by the Powerstroke badge being on the fender. There are quite a few small differences between these and the later 7.3's which I didn't find out until I bought the one I had. Here's a thread on the details...http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/ear...03-trucks.html

Hey I appreciate it.

Along with that I've discovered it has a bell housing leak, not dripping on pavement yet but enough to grab dust. (500$ fix?)

Also more photos:

He will supply me with engine and undercarriage photos tomorrow, along with photos of the leak itself.

Worst to worse, I'll keep my 94 F250 with a 460 Ext.Cab L/B. 140.000km.

Body is in same shape.

The bell housing leak could be oil from the crankcase, at least on the 6.0 MY it would drip back behind the engine and eventually onto the bell housing making it look like it was leaking.

Hopefully his photo is revealing to the issue when he sends it then I can get some opinions, I am not too suave with diesels in particular.

They can be quite temperamental. I'm sure I can handle most women now due to my truck.

Hahaha! That is a fair argument, is there anything I should be looking for otherwise? Or pricewise?

I really don't know much about 7.3s, more of a 6.0 guy. I'm not sure what your budget is, diesels are EXPENSIVE, I knew that going in, but I proceeded anyway. I don't need a diesel, and if I knew now what I didn't then, I probably would have kept my car or got a newer F150.

That said, I won't sell my truck, I do love it, but I'd rather start saving for other things, not just keep a truck running. That and modding is crazier in the diesel realm.

The newer electronics on that 7.3L might be the one thing to look at, as well as suspension. Looks like a fairly clean truck, but the undercarriage would be what I look at hard. As far as diesels go, the 7.3L is kind of bulletproof. That being said it can act like a 2 year old and throw a tantrum every now and again. Lol. New Turbo after 300K kM (230K miles) isn't a bad thing. Doesn't look like it's been heavily modified. Just a tuner. From the ad it looks like a fairly clean truck.

The price seems lower than what it should be, but diesels go for a premium around the great plains. (All diesels, not just the IDI) There are 1st Gen 7.3L Turbos going for that price and higher with the same mods and mileage here. If you are comfortable with the fact everything is heavier with a diesel (including maintenance), then I say go for it. And it never hurts to start low. All they can say is not enough money yet. Haha. Good luck.

**EDIT**
I did a quick search for 1999 Ford F250 7.3L for sale. A 2001 SCab 4X4 Lariat is 17, 950. So you getting a 1-Ton full SCrew for 9K would possibly be a little too good to be true. I would seriously try to get it to a diesel mechanic to verify it's dependability.

Oh the search I went to was for Northwest Motorsports if you want to verify what I said.

Also went on Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com) and put the truck in there. I didn't know what options it had on it as the ad didn't give them all. The truck for private party sale in Good condition is $5,548 ($6,023 for Excellent). Trade in value is $3,598 ($3,973 in Excellent). That being said, diesels have usually held pricing above the suggested price of sites like KBB. Not sure which dollar the sale ad is using. I'm assuming Canadian. In which case you can adjust those numbers X 1.06 to get close enough. Hope that helps.
