Default 1990 f 350

Hi everyone I have a chance to buy a 1990 f 350 crew cab long box. It has a 5.8l engine I have had a few trucks with the 5.8 but they were carberated. What kind of power would a truck that big with a 5.8 have. Has anyone had that size truck with that engine any help would be gently appreciated.

I had an 88, it was powerful but was terrible on fuel, traded it for an 85 6.9 diesel. The diesel has definantly had more pulling power.

4:10 on the gasser and on the diesel. My gasser got 11mpg where the diesel got around 16 empty. Pulling I would get 6-8 pulling and he diesel would get 10-12

Did it feel like a very overwhelmed engine for the amount of truck or not to bad? I have a 2003 f 250 with the 5.4 liter engine and although it's a small engine it handles the truck and has handled any load I've ever thrown at it.

it was a lot more sluggish on takeoff and had to wind up to get a 32ft gooseneck with a 4020 moving

The 5.8 is a good puller and reliable engine. Bit if you are going to pull with it regularly I would get a powerstroke or at least the 460. The smaller the motor the harder it works and it will wear itself out trying to do the job. Also consider finding a manual Trans as the autos in that era tend to be a little on the weak side. I would rather replace a clutch than rebuild an E4OD again.
