Question What Dog for Our New House?

So hopefully we get this house that me and my man just put a bid on... As promised, along with the house, I can get 2 dogs.

It's on a 2.5 acre lot, so space is not an issue... The only problem is, is that I'm a bit unsure as to what breed I want. I have it narrowed down to a few.

I want a big dog, but not loppy and slobbery. It has to be protective of the yard, but good with people. I DO NOT WANT LONG HAIR! lol. I want it to have a mean look to it... I can't get a pitbull, due to homeowner's insurance issues. If any of you have had experience with any of the above breeds, please let me know. Give me suggestions if you have any legit ones also. Thanks y'all! Pics would be cool too

well a Great P ..is very protective of the yard...dosnt droll....mine dosnt have what i would consider long hair. He can be intimidating as he has a very deep bark but he is a very friendly dog.

P.S. to the above post..

His bark is kinda like comparing the sound of a 9mm and a desert eagle 50 cal.

the 9mm is ping ping....then the desert eagle is BOOM BOOM...LOL

The only thing I worry about on Shepherds is their hip problems... I had them growing up, and they are great dogs don't get me wrong.

I have a friend who has 2 Great Pyrenees, and they are such dopey dogs lol. I guess it depends on the breeder?

And TLS, Staffies don't fall under the same category as pits do... They do look like a smaller version, but I'm not too into that particular breed...

well my dog is kind of a moron....when it rains he stands out in it instead of going into his house...but he is great as a companion and protector.

I voted for the Rotts. When I lived in VA Beach I had a male and a female and they were absolutely the greatest dogs. When I finally retire from the military and the wife and I settled down we are going to get a couple.
