Hey guys I'm fixing to turn turn 21 so naturally as a boy from SC first things on the list are a pistol and cwp. I've shot a couple of the girlfriend's brother's handguns, glock 40, ruger 22, s&w bodyguard .380, judge .44, and a .38 revolver. I'm looking for a good hand gun that's pretty concealable but powerful. I'm leaning towards the bodyguard right now. Anybody have any comments or suggestions as a first hand gun?

One of my friends has a smith and Wesson small frame revolver with a concealed hammer in 38 special. He seems happy with it and with hollow points you should have enough firepower. I'm not an expert on concealed carry stuff though. I'll be looking into it more once I turn 21 and it's my time to get one.

Whatever caliber gun you choose, make sure it is a size you can wear comfortably. Also make sure you train with it as often as possible and as much as you can afford. Don't let anyone tell you a bigger caliber is better - at close range, one in the chest and one in the head will do with anything bigger than a .32. .

This x1000. Years ago when I was looking at getting my first handgun, I had every intention of getting a Glock G27. In all of my 'wisdom', I felt this would be good for me since so many of the guys I know at work use Glock's, have them for backup/personal carry weapons, and would be easier for me to get guidance on any questions I had as a then new gun owner. Plus, they have an almost fanatic following, (not without good reason). Little did I know though....

Luckily I went out with one of my coworkers, and between his weapons, as well as the range we went to allowing me to borrow several as well, I learned that there wasn't a single Glock that actually 'fit me' well. The most comfortable handgun for me to hold, shoot, and carry was a Sig P229 in 9mm. (Go figure, so much for staying in the budget that I wanted to stay in, haha).

While it's medium size still makes it suitable for concealed carry, I find that after many years I would like something a tad more discreet. I've been meaning to take a P290 for a test drive since they've had plenty of time to get the first run issues worked out of it over the last couple of years, and think that it may work out good for me. Worst case scenario, I end up with yet another handgun.

Have patience, try out plenty of weapons, and see what feels right to you. Not your best friend. Not the guy down the street. Not what some random magazine article says. But what fits YOU. You can't go wrong that way.

Yea I know I need one that fits me well, the bodyguard fit pretty snug with me and the built in laser didn't hurt either. I have looked at some sig p200 p220 but not much. I'm reading a book written by chris kyle the u.s. navy seal and one chapter discusses what he carries. He said he didn't care the standard 9mm because "if I'm having to use my pistol, **** has already hit the fan and I want something that two in the chest will put down and keep down" haha. I really wanted to go and buy whatever I ended us choosing the day I turned 21 but after I got thinking I realized it'd be after when I can actually go to a range and test fire different ones by myself.

I love and shoot well with a Sig P220 but I rarely wear it because it feels like I have small car in my pants.

I highly recommend you try out a Kahr P40 if you can find one to test. I carry a Kahr P9 and love it but if you want bigger than a 9mm the .40 is the next logical step.

Kahr pistols were designed specifically to be concealed carry guns. As simple as a revolver to use.

I will second the khar. I carry the cm9 when I'm out fishing. Small conferrable and accurate. I normally carry a compact Sig or kimber when I'm away from the water.
