I use a lot of Internet forums hunting fishing atv snowmobile etc. Love this site but it by far has the tightest classified requirements. I've gotten after some moderators because it's not always done fairly some guys are given time to add pictures some guys just get locked down. I can understand some guys got ripped off on here and I'm sure it sucks but there is nobody to blame but themselves. The best protection you can have is PayPal. I'm sure some guys have had bad dealings with them in the past too but again follow the guidelines and your purchases will be safe. If you want to buy a seller's item and he doesn't have his name and date ask him to send a picture of it and I don't think most guys would have a problem at that point. I don't think the rule is necessary for everyone but should be available to buyers upon request. Also the moderators could require 25 posts before you can sell something, that is not uncommon in forum marketplaces. Just my .02

I think the new rules are great. It saves 50 posts of "please send pics to .....@....com."

I would say the picture should include something that can easily be identified as belonging to the owner/poster. Putting the username on a piece of paper in the picture isn't that much to ask to help potential buyers see that the posting is legit.

I wouldn't be AS concerned with the pictures as I would be about the form of payment though. The BUYER should understand exactly what they are doing on paypal, or whatever form of money transfer may be. Cover your own butt.

Also, personally, I like to ask the seller to (on a one time basis) send ONE picture of the item, with another randomly thought of item in the picture as well. Let's say I'm buying a tail light, I might ask the seller to put a wooden spatula in the picture next to the tail light. I may not get that exact picture, but you can't google that image and get hundreds of results, making it hard to scam the buyer. I would GLADLY do this for someone wishing to buy something from me, because it's a form of security for the buyer to know I'm not out to rip them off. Even if they say no, ask them to put something, something unique or "out of place" in it so you can confirm that it is that person who has it. If the seller declines, be suspicious because if they really wanted to sell it then they should be willing to do this in the first place.

Just my thoughts... Use common sense, be reasonable, caveat emptor.

With all the people getting ripped of on the internet, I think the new rule works well in the buyer's favor. At least you know that the posting seller has the part in hand ready to sell, not some old photo he took before storing in the shed, or a stock photo pulled off Google. It's not fool proof, but it sure helps. I would think that maybe having a time/date stamp on the pic would help too, so you know the picture is recent. Most all cameras and phones can do this.

Now if we could just get the new members to read the damn rules and stop posting sales in the regular forums without pics or prices.

the new rule does nothing to prevent fraud, if you believe otherwise you are an idiot. I can create an account and post for days and get the minimum post count and then post a bunch of fraudulent items with my bogus screen name etc.

You people are waaaaay over thinking this. The turds that think this rule is a good idea probably never listed anything anyway and more than likely have very little computer knowledge or experience or are lacking the appropriate amount of brain cells.

A person should be required to have "X" amount of posts and must take a picture of the item they are selling (again no stock photos) then whoever is interested in the item news to email the seller and ask he usual questions. Also people who have already sold several items should be excluded from this crap if you choose to keep this stupid rule. Chances are too many retards are going to vote for this and never utilize the classifieds which screws the people who do.

Its very simple to jump out of my truck, snap a picture of my wheels with my iPhone and upload it right away to my f150.com app, but noooo I have to search for a damn pen and paper because some brain thought that a user name and date would solve the world fraud crisis.

Common sense is not a common virtue anymore, get rid of the horses sh*t rule and lets get back to business

It's not going to solve all the fraud problems. But one thing it does is prove that you actually own the item that you are
trying to sell. But the biggest upside IMO is that it forces someone to put up a picture so you can see pics immediately and not have to pm them for pics.

And yes I have the appropriate amount of brain cells and a good amount of computer knowledge

If your serious about selling something on here you should have no problem with the rule. The rule is there to prove u own the stuff ur selling. Better still would be a photo of you and the item holding the paper with your name and date. If you have a problem with it maybe you should sell your stuff elsewhere.

Now put a pic of your stuff with ur name and date and be happy you can post it. Cause even tho most that vote may never post a classified add they still may buy and it help those that do buy feel comfortable that it's not a fake item your trying to sell.

P.S autocorrect didn't change anything I wrote. You just don't read what u wrote.

Exactly..... Being able to post something up on this site is a privilege, not a right... They can always do away with the function all together and ban the selling of any items on this site.... But like I mentioned earlier... It's your money if your that gullible to want lax rules and you end up getting ripped off because the "my word is my bond" theory then you deserve to be ripped off..
