Nice seeing someone chucked the old points distributor in favor of the HEI... so either you got a newer distributor (75 and newer) or someone replaced the engine with a 75 and newer model
It's the original engine. The guy I bought it from did it a couple years before I bought it. I've had it for almost 10 years.

I'm only having it checked for cracks. And maybe a mild machine on the top of the deck. The cylinder walls look great. He's also going to check the crank, cam and bearings. The engine only has about 72,000 miles. And I will be putting everything back together. If I don't need the crank turned, it will only be about $350 plus all new seals and new rings for the pistons. It would cost way more to get everything I need to get a 350 up and running. I really wanted to swap to a 292, but I didn't have the time to look for a block.

new rings in an old bore isnt going to be a good idea...

Better find the blow by issue now and you might want to know what the out-of-round hole number is... how much ring ridge there is... if it needs bored pistons and stuff are going to be more expensive than you think...

New rings in an old bore will cause more blow-by than you have now... a 350.00 dollar rebuild isnt going to run any better than what you have now and chances are very good you'll end up wiping the cam shortly after rebuild

292 parts are not only in short order (rare) and are very expensive

The blow by was caused by over heating when the head gasket blew. It runs great. The only problem is it smokes like crazy when I don't use Lucas Oil in the oil change. When I do that I get zero smoke and it runs so good I almost can't hear or feel it.

Update for those that care. I got my parts back today. I started putting it together, but stopped after attaching the pistons and rods to the crank due to lighting issues.
