Default Private sale of 04 Explorer Eddie Bauer

So as I'm waiting for my new F-150 to get here the dealer offered me $4000 for my 04 Eddie Bauer Explorer V-8. KBB trade in value was between $4500-$5800. Less than 94,000 miles.

Its still in very good shape but there are some things. A year ago a lady backed in to the left rear quarter panel and door. Fully Repaired by insurance but the dealer said the history lowers the value.

The radio has the classic turn the volume down the **** and it goes up issue but the steering wheel controls work.

The possible more serious issue is in one of our maybe 30 starts it will crank but not start right away. Stop the crank and do it again and it starts right away. Been doing this for like a year. I had stopped by the dealer and he immediately said its the fuel pump in the tank and its a $1000 repair.

Just curious if I put it out on Craigslist and be honest about the issues if I can get a little bit more than the $4000 the dealer is offering?

Hard to say. Sounds like you have decent miles for an 11 year old truck. I guess it all really depends on what you are going to disclose to a potential buyer.

There are a lot of used Explorers floating around and I'm not 100% sure I'd want to pay much more than $4k for one with an accident history that may need a new fuel pump soon.

On the other hand when I got my wife a new car 2 years ago we were offered $1500.00 for our used 02 WRX. It had 168,000 miles on it but was a one owner accident free, female driven car. We passed on the dealer's offer and sold it for $3800.00 privately.

Ya never know

Just put it on CL and see what happens. Worse case, trade it when your new truck comes in. That's what we did with our Expy.
