Some of the large chips are down to the plastic body. Should I risk doing all this work just to potentially have the remaining old work start to separate under the new good work?

Damn the paint job is that bad? You can go all the way down just keep it moving over large areas. You'll have to get a special plastic bonding primer since paint doesn't like to adhere as well to plastic as metal. It shouldn't be hard to find since most cars now are plastic, just ask the paint shop guy what's best.

The paint shop I use is right next to a body shop and some of the workers work there too so I got good advice on paint to use.

Yea man a DA sander. Chemical strippers will saturate the substrate and paint will never stick. You can't use aggressive mechanical strippers so DA is the best. If the paint on it now is in good shape you don't have to remove it, but if it's flaking or peeling anywhere you can expect it to happen anywhere else.

I was just kidding about Maaco. I've sanded, primed, and painted one truck....many years ago. And I've driven a total of one fiero........years ago.

Your best bet is to redo the whole thing. Trying to fix any problem areas will just assure other areas will become problematic. It's a fun project. Only problem I ran into is when I was painting the bed, the paint started to separate. Found out it was a bit too cold in the garage. Stripped that paint and fired up the heater. It came out nice.

I won't be starting all of this until probably around June or July so cold might be the problem. Heat on the other hand.....

There are a few body guys here. [MENTION=75690]mbullock[/MENTION] does body work i think. And kozal has done some also.
