Gun season doesn't start in Maryland until the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Can't wait.

Goodluck! Shotgun ends for us this weekend and today was my last chance I would have to go out so I took the doe.

Nothing wrong with taking a doe, too many people are trophy hunters anyway. Don't get me wrong, if I see a big buck, I am going to shoot him, but if I need meat in my freezer, then I will take whatever walks in front of me, within reason of course.
Btw, I shot a nice, big doe on Wednesday evening. She dressed out at 96 pounds. I have been suffering with a sinus infection since Sunday and I was having trouble staying in the woods and not spooking the deer with all the noises I was making.
Here she is:

Here are a few pics of one place where I hunt. The muddy trail pics are the "driveway" or access road that I take to my trailer. I took a pic from each direction to show perspective. It has rained a lot in Maryland this fall and the ground is saturated. The other pics were taken from my ladder stand and show a stream running thru the area. The stream was not there in early fall. This is where I shot the doe on Wednesday. She was eating off the corn pile to the left in the pic. It was about a 35 yard shot and I hit her between the shoulders.

^ Nice!
Any of you hunt bear? And have you gotten 1? I might be going up helping my uncle scout for bear and hoping he can get 1. Last year when I went we didn't see any bears. Saw a fresh kill from a bear, but he never came in.

Congratz on your kill, im with you on shooting one for the meat, that's what I do with them. My dad actually got a buck this year along with my doe, so we donated some of our meat to the food shelter so the people can have a good meal.

Thanks!
I don't hunt bear, but Maryland only re-opened it's black bear season a few years ago, the first time since the 50's that you could hunt black bear. It's a lottery system, so you never know if/when you will get selected.

Thanks!
Here in Maryland there is a program for hunters to donate deer to feed the hungry. I copied the text below from the Maryland DNR website:
If you are reading this, chances are you are a hunter who is caring, community-minded and may be willing to donate one or more of the deer you harvest this 2009-2010 season to feed the hungry in Maryland through Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH). Or perhaps you are interested in spending some time as a volunteer contact or coordinator to help develop the FHFH program.
In the past, most venison donations would cost the donor the fee of processing the meat, but now FHFH provides the funding to pay the entire cost for the processing of donated deer. The participating meat processors are charging a special discounted fee to process donated deer and FHFH pays this fee for you. The average deer yields 50 pounds of meat. This comes to $1.00 per pound or about 25 cents per serving. The retail costs of the same cuts of beef are $2-$5 dollars per pound. FHFH collects cash donations from churches, foundations, businesses and individuals and will pay approved deer processors to process the deer that you bring to them during Maryland's bow, muzzleloader and firearms seasons and from time to time will also process deer farmers take under the terms of their Deer Damage Permit.
Food banks tell us that meat is their least available food item due to the high cost ($2-$5 per pound for beef) and that they gratefully accept venison donations. Venison is a nutritious, low fat, high protein meat that is distributed and/or cooked by hundreds of Maryland community organizations such as church pantries, Salvation Army, community food banks, church feeding ministries, emergency assistance programs and children's homes.
You can donate your deer to the program and have that venison end up on the tables of less fortunate people in Maryland. All it takes is for you to field dress and take the legally tagged deer to your nearest participating meat processor.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources fully supports this worthwhile program that is being managed by FHFH. Since 1997, hunters and farmers like you have donated slightly more than 282 tons of meat, resulting in over 2.2 million meals being served to needy people.
