Default Expedition Fuel Mileage Gains

Alright guys, I bought my wife a 2010 Expedition wit a 5.4L V-8. Everything about this vehicle is great, except the fuel mileage. (I got 15 MPG highway on vacation this past week.)I just installed a K&N air filter (not the entire cold air intake), but it has not been on long enough for me to tell a difference. I was thinking about also adding a throttle body spacer. Has anyone done this on an Expedition? Results? Good? Bad? Any?

Oh, and since it is my wife's car, I am not allowed to put a performance exhaust on it. She hates the increased volume of an after market exhaust.

Any other suggestions for increased mileage? Thanks.

Thanks, Hk2011fx4. I considered that. However, I am scared of what those can do to your transmission. I am hoping to keep this vehicle for a very long time. Have you had any experience with a throttle body spacer?

Well there made to help your car not harm it I have it on my 2011 f150 and I've gotten 3 more mpg. And the throttle body spacer helps a little but to me I don't think there worth the 100 dollars or so. I have heard story people getting 5 mpg with the intake and spacer but then agin thats mostly the intake doing the work. So it's totally up to you.

Dynomax exhaust. Quiet, but free flowing. My grandmother has a 09 that she gets 21 mpg with. A tuner would be a good investment. They mainly just mess with the shift points (that's why I don't have one for my 02, its a standard) but do mess with the mix a bit. You want one that will allow you to take it back to the stock tune (anytime you take the truck to Ford put it back to stock tune) as sometimes Ford will say your warranty has been voided because you retuned the ecm.

Well I have never had a problem with my warranty with those.

I had a 2004 Expedition and got 19 MPG on vacation. Sounds to me like it needs to be cleaned and adjusted.

Trade it in on a Focus. That's a big honking SUV with a big V8 in it. It's going to get crappy mileage.

Throttle Body Spacers are worthless and most modifications for MPG gains become a lesson in diminishing returns. I've broken the math down many times, it's not worth it. Mod for power, not MPG.

2wd or 4x4? Is it an EL?
Mileage sounds right to me. A 2010 2wd shows to get a combined MPG of 16 in the first place...

It's a 2wd, regular length. The mileage probably is what it is supposed to be.....I just wanted to improve it. Thanks for the tips guys. I can always count on this forum for some good advice.
