nailed it.

You think China is the only country ahead of us in academics ? Yeah, they "cane" all their children into getting good grades. Okay. "A totally free environment" - This is what I'm talking about. What are you even saying? What does this even mean? What are these freedoms that we have here, that other 1st world countries do not have, that make's our country "a totally free environment" ? You are free to underachieve, eat too much and read too little in countries located in every corner of the globe. "That doesn't mean we aren't number 1" - Do you realize the flaw in this logic? You are trying to reverse the way things work in a rational world. The proof of burden lies upon the one making the claim. You need to start defining things rather than throwing out blanket FREEDOM, MERICA type statements. Again, a perfect example of why we have a reputation of being ignorant and arrogant. The xtralarge poster made his post in a 'joking' tone, but there's also a lot of reality in the way he expressed himself - another perfect example of the attitude that gives americans such a bad reputation around the world. Boastful and full of pride, while offering no real context or substance to support anything being said.. There is a whole lot of nothing being said, yet it gets supported by others with the same mindset and the cycle continues. Name another country that people risk death to escape to? You can't be serious right? You cannot honestly believe that the USA is the only country people risk their lives to immigrate to. I don't believe that for a second.
Again, I have given numerous examples and substance - none of which can be ignored or denied by any rational or thinking person.

No one is yelling or carrying a pitchfork, that's your attempt at devaluing/dismissing our points.

To repeat: America - the great experiment - has accomplished numerous things no other country has:

walking on the moon

creating the internet and ushering in an entirely new mechanism for commerce and communication used the world over

no other culture on the globe is more imitated

To name but a few... You have the right to disagree but that doesn't make you right nor does it invalidate my opinion.

You keep saying other countries are free but you are ignoring two key points:

1) Numerous countries have some of our freedoms and rights but very few have all - if you aren't aware of this then I can't help you here either.

Singapore - beautiful place, rich history and culture - they beat you if you spit on the sidewalk

China - really?

Entire Middle East - whoa

North/South Korea...

Etc... Try burning China's flag in China or speaking out against Kim Jung Un in the Koreas or be a Christian in Iran - THAT is what is meant by our flavor of freedom.

2) You also continue to ignore our cultural impact on the 1st world nations. Additionally there are FAR more US companies (McDonalds, Starbucks, etc... US cultural icons) in operation around the world than other countries icons in operation in the US.

Your picking a stat and using it as proof of our being 'less than' another country ignores the tremendous impact we have had on the globe WRT culture, commerce, freedoms, rights, education, etc.

Not allowing them to live their own life, create their own ideas, beliefs and way if interpreting the things around them.

It's the attitude of knowing everything, having it all figured out, that seems to resonate heavily in the typical conservative religious folks that are always so vocal.

It goes hand in hand with the political indoctrination a lot of adults do to their children and from what I've experienced, it's far more prevalent on the religious/conservative side of things.

The type of environment which would impose it's ideals, beliefs and superstitions onto another innocent young being in form of religion, is the same type of environment that pushes political agendas onto children and creates this attitude of knowing everything, having it all figured out, my teams the best, 'liberals' destroyed everything. yadda yadda yadda.
So... If you have children, do you teach them things that you believe are right? If you go to church, do you insist that they come with you or do you leave them home with a babysitter? Or... If you don't attend a church, do you allow them to go if they want to?

As for the rankings. What country is at the front of the line helping in the event of a disaster? Which country is called upon to supply military power when someone is under attack? Which country provides the most aid, is the most charitable? Where do physicians from around the world come to learn cutting edge techniques and procedures?
Has another country ever done ANY of that for us?

We are not cutting edge in the medical field. Where do people go to get the best medical treatment? Germany.

That's funny. My in-laws, who are German and live in... Germany, say the exact opposite. If you are Andrea Merkel you'll get good treatment, but word on the street in Germany is that the overall level of care is better in the US. Innovation in medical sciences in ahead in the US too, from what I hear, because the universities are better funded here.

Now you may have some references for your sweeping statement, but you haven't posted them. All I have is actual citizen's experiences.

I don't care what the average citizens get, that has no relevance on how technologically advanced they are. There must be a reason our top athletes and folks with money go there for treatment all the time. Why did Kobe Bryant just go for his knee procedure?

There's a reason people go there... Bryant couldn't find a place closer to LA? Lol what good is our tech if it's not approved for use.

Mexico is #2. #4 The average American drinks more than 600 sodas a year – the most in the world. #5 U.S. corporations sell more fast food and more soda than anyone else in the world by a wide margin. #6 Nobody watches more television per week (28 hours) than Americans do. So why are so many of us dumb as a rock? #26 Nobody in the world gets more plastic surgery done than Americans do. #27 The United States leads the world in eating disorder deaths. #28 According to nationmaster.com, the United States has the most total reported crimes in the world by far. #29 Nobody has more airport security thugs groping women and children than America does. #30 The United States spends much more on health care as a percentage of GDP than any other nation on the face of the earth. #31 The United States has the most complicated tax system on the entire planet. #32 The United States has the most laws on the entire planet. #33 The United States spends more on the military than the next 12 nations combined, and yet the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent. #34 The United States has the most foreign military bases in the world by far. #35 The United States exports more arms to other countries than anyone else in the world. #36 Americans spend more time sitting in traffic than anyone else in the world. #37 Americans spend more money on elections than anyone else does in the world by a very wide margin. #38 Every single year, the United States has the largest trade deficit in the world by far. #39 The U.S. government wastes more money than any other government on earth does. #40 The United States has accumulated the biggest mountain of government debt in the history of the world.
Well if you want to live in a country where cars aren't stolen, people are not incarcerated, no one watches tv, healthcare is free, and everyone his income equality then you may want to try Cuba. Sure TVs are scarce, you have to make lines for the government to give you a monthly food ration, you have to take your own supplies to the hospital, average car is 50 years old, and no one has anything worth stealing, no credit card fraud because there is no credit because there is no money, but you do have all those things you envy of other countries. And even the dictator in charge resembles the one we have here. As far as the number of people leaving here outnumbering the ones trying to get in goes I'm sure those numbers must come from a liberal think tank. A lot of things do sick in this country but most are the result of politicians trying to change things in this country to resemble what is done in others. Everyone in this country has the ability to prosper and there are many examples of that in every segment of society. If you have the drive and know how the possibilities are endless.
