What country would you prefer to live in, and why? Australia, maybe?

You are making assumptions - I made no such assertion.

You are discounting the impact of our culture and philosophy on the westernized (ie Americanized) nations. Not everyone is born free, in fact MOST are not - not the flavor of freedom we enjoy each and every day.

I never said we did it alone, but there is no doubt that our participation and financial contribution had a tremendously positive impact, some might even say tipped the scales.

I'm not sure what old people on a truck forum have to do with our national innovation or lack thereof.

The US is the world leader in innovation - prove me wrong.

We designed and built the internet after all... The tool that the entire developed world uses to communicate.

What does military spending have to do with the price of tea in China? So what if the Cold War led to it? It was competition and our space program has paid tremendous dividends WRT science and technology.

It may be opinion but if you can't see where actually experiencing many cultures would lead to a more informed opinion over someone who has only read about them in books... I can't help you here.

Ha it's all good. I totally agree. I've never seen anything like it. It's gotten really bad and makes me sick. I enjoy going to work and really can't understand people like you described.

Lots of people leave the USA to live abroad everyday, by your logic, those countries they immigrated to are now "better" ?

The general consensus most of the world, outside the USA, is that Americans are ignorant and arrogant. Some of the posts in this thread only help to support these claims.

I honestly don't think there is much we rank "#1" at in this country other than number of citizens in prison/jail, military budget and obesity.

There's that black and white attitude.

I say the "best country in the world" discussion is completely ridiculous and makes no sense.

You assume that I don't like living here.

Australia.. ?

Why do you live here if it's so bad? I really don't care the general consensus around the world. I'm secure enough in myself that if someone doesn't like me I'm ok with that.
