Florida Passes Plan For Racially-Based Academic Goals
by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level. For math, the goals are 92 percent of Asian kids to be proficient, whites at 86 percent, Hispanics at 80 percent and blacks at 74 percent.

See link: http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2012/10/12...cademic-goals/
You design a goal that is fair to teachers, other than "Teachers need to become the parents of all their students and guarrantee their success while their actual parents pop a cold one and watch reality TV!" My wife had a list of kids to call at her elementary school every morning because they had to get themselves up and get ready for school by themselves in the 4th grade! Some parents were just losers and others could not be their in the morning or lose their jobs! I wonder if people like Romney really understand that not all people have the same chance in the U.S.! It's a nice romantic thought, but not a reality! "Liberty and Freedom" are hollow words if they don't apply to your "real" life and your opportunities! I wonder where Romney would be today if he had been born in a neighborhood where he got up to an empty house and had to get himself to school by himself everyday?

It is really not unfair to say that "Romney was born on 3rd Base and thinks he hit a triple!" Or... to recognize that some kids are born with two strikes against them and have to be exceptional to beat those odds..... by just staying out of prison and becoming a success! I was born into a lower class poor family that never own their own home, etc. When I met my wife who was a upper Middle Class girl I thought her house was like in the old Ozzie and Harriet Show of 60's TV A mother in a dress and an apron that just came from the beauty parlor and played bridge in the afternoon, and a father who was the president of a company wearing a business suit! I felt like the help that should knock at the backdoor! The government of the 60's and 70's supported higher education muc, much more than today and I turned out more of a success than her two brothers! I worked my way through college and graduate school and still saved money to buy a house! Try that today! I want to go back to a government that invests in its citizens instead of its corporations! I don't want the vision of the Romneys in America! I didn't like their 1st movie under Bush, and I don't want to see the sequel under Romney!

DO BLACK PEOPLE SUPPORT OBAMA BECAUSE HE'S BLACK?
In 2011, as black unemployment continued to rise, the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus said that if Clinton was still president, "we probably would be still marching on the White House . (but) nobody wants to do anything that would empower the people who hate the president."

If the sign said Christians for Obama that would that indicate a prejudice against Jews and Muslims or does this only break one way?

Question: Is it possible to be prejudiced against another person or group without even knowing it! Do we "ALL" have prejudices that we are completely unaware of? Only if you are human!

Prejudice is an very efficient way to make decisions and is good unless it hurts people! When I see a snake in the grass I jump back! That's prejudice... prejudging that snake without enough information.... but it will keep you from getting bitten. The problem is when you kill a harmless snake because you prejudged it as being dangerous "like all those snakes"! Do we ever do that with people? Everyday!

I think I'll write a blurb on "Racism in America!" and hope the fine Mod of this thread won't censor just to keep everyone happy! In my opinion, people should be kept from blatant attacks and picking fights, but a post should not have to keep everybody smiling as if we were in the "Happy Days" sitcom! I only learn and change when my feathers get ruffled! As a biology teacher, I taught no organism changes when it is perfectly comfortable! We change when we are made uncomfortable! Sometimes I have to be challenged, get irritated, calm down and look in the mirror and see if the criticism had some merit! When it does, you "Man up" and change..... instead of looking for a cover argument to hide from the truth to avoid changing! Tough work! Twice a year I let my students tell me what I was doing wrong and what I was doing right! The 1st 30 minutes they peeled my skin off with complete honesty, and then the second 30 minutes they tried to rebuild my ego so I wouldn't quit teaching and slash my wrists! When you ask a 13 year old to tell you the truth and they trust you.... get ready for a reality check!

Um...Do you ever read the story in the links, or just look at the Picture & Title & start typing? It's interesting, with purpose to provide perspective.

It has some humor, but it is also a slap in the face for a whole group of people, demeaning their opinions. To me it's not funny!

Here's an example I used before to illustrate how a joke can be more prejudice than humor and therefore not a good idea:

Two Republican's were leaving an expensive men's club lunch when they noticed a skeleton propped up against a wall in alley by the building. The skeleton had both legs missing and only one arm. It also had a white cane and the dark glasses of a blind man on the boney skull.

One Republican looked at the other and said, "Obviously another Liberal Democrat of the 47% who never learned self responsibility due to FDR and his like!"

It portrays Republicans in a prejudical way and just isn't fair even if it is funny. That's how I feel about your Avatar and many of the posts you make, and that's what has to be considered when a cartoon or joke is presented.

Moderators, PLEASE leave the picture up as I am trying to use it to make a "good" point... not start an argument:

I support both Obama and Hillary, but I see more humor in this picture than irritation. I'd be surprised if Obama and Hillary wouldn't smile if they saw it! It's more about the humor, than an attack! My point is a joke is not a joke unless all parties can laugh at it.... and I think that is a good rule to use in deciding what to post!
I happen to like his avatar haha

And this is exactly why this country is so divided ! Obama could set a precedent, and not make race an issue, but due to the fact that this exists is the divide !

We're is the one that says "Americans for Obama"?
