Default Windsor?

I just bought a 351 from a '91 F250 to put in my '85 F150. Does anyone know how to tell if it's a Windsor? Or does it even matter? The transmission bolt pattern is the same as the 302 that came in the '85 so I think it will work fine. I am simply curious as to what type of 351 it is. Thanks.

If it has the same trans pattern as a 302 it has to be a Windsor. The M had a big block pattern and the Cleveland had it's own special pattern. I also think that only the windsor had the water outlet come straight out of the front of the intake (I could be wrong about that, I didn't check my Cleveland when I tossed it for a 460!).

Oh yeah, the stopped making the M and C engines long before 91.

Default Windsor

Sorry for the late post. Are you still trying to determine 302 or 351W? If so the Windsor has a longer stroke consequently the engine is tall and wider. About 2" wider where the crankcase is flat just below the intake manifold. Appx 4-5 inches (302), 6-7 inches for the Windsor. As stated in the prior post the bypass hose is longer and joggles toward the passenger side of the engine then connects to the water pump. The 302 had the bypass hose make a 90 degree bend down into the pump. Hope this helps.

I was able to figure it out. It's a windsor. I also found that a good way to get info is to run your vin through motorcraft's website. Just click on lookup parts by vin, punch in your vin, and it spits out a vague "what's what" of your truck. Thanks for the help guys and keep on truckin!
