Tachometer and trip odometer cluster install?
I found a gauge cluster on CL with a tach and a trip odometer. Is there any difference in installation and wiring because it has a trip odometer? Do I need special wiring for that/the tach? The cluster comes with the printed circuit but that is it.

Are you putting this in you 1984? If so it is plug and play. I am not sure about your 1986 I am guessing it should be, but don't hold me to it. While you have the cluster out consider replacing your bulbs, just a thought.

The seller said it was pulled from an 84. I believe that 80-81 had a different circuit board or something. It should be plug and play for 1982-86. I just dont know if there are any wires for the trip odometer? If something is wrong with this cluster I will just take the tach out and install it into my own cluster

1980 is the "bastard child" of this group '81-86 should swap. There is no wiring for the trip odometer. If for some reason the spedo and trip odometer are bad all you have to do to install your old clurter with the tach is just move the tach and printed circuit card to your old cluster and plug it in the engine/cab harness has all the other wiring installed

Yup thats the plan if it doesnt work. The trip odometer is interesting being mechanical. I wonder if you reset it and it starts right away and is always on? Nice to have. My truck has the light under hood package, xlt, lariat, 4x4, rear swaybar, heavy duty gvwr, and soon tach and trip odometer.

I also added a tach to mine, wanted a trip odometer also but the one I found was busted so I just moved the tach and repaired my other gauges with parts from the other cluster. I also got some orange paint for the gauge needles and repainted them also.

I ordered mine from LMC

Bottom right on page. They say no masking required, but I did not trust my shaky hands and bad eye site so I mask it off

Thanks! I guess I dont need it. The cluster I am going to get is already painted orange. I guess i didnt pay attention to it. I am 16 and when I painted the needles red I got some sharpie on the gas gauge icon when pushing down on the needle. After that I masked it off too. I noticed in the picture it looks like the plastic cover over the cluster is cracked. Going to take my own cover and drill out the hole for the trip odometer button If the trip works.
