Default 77 F-150 overheating / cooling issues

I have a 77 f150 400. Radiator recently went bad so we replaced with a newone (not the cheap ones you find at advance auto). After replacing the radiatorthe engine continues to overheat at an idle. To the point where the coolantoverflows. Below what is has been done and known to be good:

- new radiator
- thermostat is good
- replaced flex fan with an original so the pull is stronger at an idle.
- coolant is flowing

There was not a shroud on the previous radiator, and we had no issue withoverheating. I have a shroud to put on, but since the radiator is not an OEM,some modification has to be done so it will line up. The only other item we canthink to check is the timing.

Any other suggestions of what to check? Again we had no issue withoverheating prior to the radiator going bad.

You may have a air pocket. Top off the system then bring it up to temp while the cap is off. Might be the issue.
