You may get a small benefit from it but it wouldnt be noticeable. When you see a vehicle get 10-15 hp out of a port and polish they dont tell you its making 400+ hp already. Your engine is rated about 140hp and about 260 pounds of torque. If you want a real improvement go to a yard and get a head and exhaust manifolds (2 on fuelie engines) off a fuel injected 300. These give you about a .5 compression increase. Upgrade the cam. You can probably boost it 20-25hp and 40-50 pounds of torque. Cost would be about $100-125 for cam, $100 for exhaust, maybe $50-75 for head and manifolds. With this engine it will feel like a huge boost of power. Gas mileage may drop .5mpg or it may improve.

You will never make huge hp numbers off of this 300 but it makes gobs of torque. If you want fast you either need another vehicle with a v8 or swap in a small block.

If you have the parts and the time it wont hurt anything. Just use new gaskets to get the diameter of the runners, bore out the end to that size, then take all the casting slag out of the runner til its all smooth and your transition from regular size to gasket size is a smooth sloped transition. Move your bit around not staying in 1 place. Runners are easy to gouge.
