Default New to the boards. 1984 F150.

Hello.
I have browsed around the site a bit and wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Bobby and I recently just picked up a 84 F150. It has the 302/Aod combo, single cab, short bed, 2wd.

It was rough from the start, but I am doing what I can to get her back respectable.

When I got it, the seat was trash, the transmission would not shift past second, it leaked from the valve covers, the air cleaner was not even close to mounted right, the parking brake was not connected, the driver tail light was busted, the driver and passenger fenders need to be replaced, the passenger head light bezzle was broken, the grill was broken, a/c compressor had been removed, dash was in terrible shape, a random hole was drilled in the back of the cab (I'm guessing for an amp), no headliner or visors, window rollers did not exist, one or two of the lifters were collapsed, the mirrors were missing from both doors, tailgate latch does not work, both doors needed to be replaced, and the back tires were bald.

Luckily I am a few exits away from a Pull A Part and have been able to get most of the items from there.

So far I have:
Replaced the grill with an emblem-less one that I painted flat black. Swapped the transmission.
Replaced the passenger headlight bezzle.
Replaced the parking lights with clear lenses.
New plugs, new wires, new cap and button.
Oil change.
New thermostat.
Swapped the seat out with one from a 71 LTD Brougham.
Made a headliner.
Put the backing in the glove box.
Replaced the window rollers.
Ran all new speaker wires.
Pulled out the dash to fiberglass it.
Replaced valve cover gaskets and valve covers with chrome ones from summit.
Replaced intake gasket.
Replaced the glove box latch.
Put a proper fitting 14" air cleaner that matches the valve covers.
Replaced broken tail light.
Removed crappy looking homemade center console.
----------------Updated------------------------
Made the custom guages.
Went with a Edlebrock intake.
Added Holley 4 barrel carburetor.
New set of lifters and pushrods.
Removed all emissions control items under the hood.
Replaced the wire harness to my distributor since it was half melted.
Added loom under the hood to make it a little less cluttered.
Swapped out the wood grain panels for the gray ones.

Upcoming:
Getting the TV Kick Down Rod adjusted.
Painting the wheels black.
Replacing the fenders and doors.
Replace or paint the door panels.
Getting everything audio wise updated and installed.
Bondo Bondo Bondo
Paint
and a little more custom stuff here and there.

I will get some pics and post some more as I continue to make progress. Seems like a great board, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Welcome and with all this going on have you ever driven it yet? Keep a log as to expenses, what to do and not to do. Others will be interested as to progress and cost.

Thats a good idea. It will also help me keep track of what I have spent. I will grab my receipt box a little later and add prices. I have driven it, all in all about half a mile with the bad tranny and about a half a mile with the new tranny. It was great even in that short period.

Oh, I forgot about the Truck its self. I traded it for a Romanian Ak47. So realistically I paid about $450 bucks for it.

Update. Put it the new to me lifters and the truck sounds like a diesel. Let it run for about 15 minutes to build up the oil in the lifters, but it didn't help. I bought another set along with rods and a 2 barrel intake manifold off of a 69 mustang. I will be replacing all of these items this week to see if it helps out.

I am also having issues with the TV Rod. The truck is not shifting right at all and I imagine that its due to the TV Rod. If its not that, then I will shoot for another transmission.

More to come.

You are a 84 truck and installed lifters and push rods from a 69. Back in those days (69) we had two types of rockers, a 9/16 socket required to bottom out the rocker nut and a 5/8 socket to adjust the slack and add 3/4 turn. Not an engineer to know the difference maybe push rod lengths or rocker arm style. Just something to think about.
