I guess I should have put some more details about the truck down. It is carbed so that makes things simpler. Transmission is an automatic. If my transmission can be rebuilt to handle the power then I would do that, something I will have to ask a shop. Not sure what size my rear end is but same situation as the transmission. The truck isn't going to be a daily driver, more of a weekend cruiser. I do agree that 300hp would make a great difference, it is pretty gutless, has good torque but that is about it. So far I'm still leaning towards buying a built up 302 and bolting that in. Even making 350hp would be enough, like I said I'm not making a race truck. Just a reliable and fun cruiser.

Is your door jamb sticker still there? If not see if you have a metal tag on the rear diff, should tell you what it id, what gears you have etc.

Sorry for the late reply, life got busy ha. But I do believe the door sticker is still there. The truck is still away at my paint guys place so I cant take a look at the moment. Waiting on my cowl hood to come in still. Had to order it from the states and the first one that came in was damaged so im waiting again. But if all goes well im hoping to be able to build up the original tranny and rear end to match the motor I put in. Buying a crate 302 that makes some extra horse power makes the most sense so far, easy bolt in and keeps things simple. Maybe once I get the time I will start a build thread on here since I have been taking pictures throughout the paint process already.

*** A quick side note. My grandpa just turned 90 last weekend and he is pretty excited about the truck. Should be able to take him for a ride in it next summer even if its still on the old engine.
