Default 1979 F150 Wiring Harness

Hello all and thanks in advance for any advice given. I have a 1979 F150 with a 460 that I believe came out of a old Lincoln. I bought the truck for $700 and aside from the normal body damage of a 30 year old vehicle its not that bad of a truck. The truck originally came with a 351 in it according to the VIN and it looks like it was replaced due to a fire (parts of the wiring harness in the engine bay are charred a bit). I'm planning on replacing some the the ignition equipment and carb and I was wondering what the best option for wiring would be. Should I try to replace the wires and connectors that I think are damaged or should I get a completely new harness. If I were to get a new harness what would be a good place to get a new on that would work for my setup. I'm planning on stripping the interior completely so I would like to do the work while I have the dash out. Once again thanks for any advice.

I'm assuming your truck is carbureted. But does it have points or electronic ignition? If you have points, or an hei, something with a simple hookup, then you can just make a new wiring harness of your own. If you have a more complicated ignition, such as a duraspark or mallory, then it will be more difficult to wire it up. You can buy a fuse box from your local auto parts store or junkyard, i'm pretty sure, and a spool of wire. Run a large wire from the selonoid to the fuse box, then run your electronic components from that. Then you can run a wire from a part of the fuse box to your ignition switch on the steering column, to the distributor. (Make sure power goes to the distributor in both ON and START positions). Then you can run any auxilliary electric components from your fuse box. Hope this helped.
