I will as soon as I can get it to run- I don't know what the problem is! When I first try, it'll start 2 or 3 times (but immediately dies) but after that it just turns and turns... won't start! Any tips?

Back in those days it was called a B/MAP sensor and there was no vacuum lines attached to it. It read Barometric (outside air pressure) and inputted to ECM.

Bill would know better than I would about the sensor.

Make sure it is getting spark at all times, like after it started but won't start again. Also after it won't start again see if it's still getting fuel. See if it will start and run with starting fluid, but don't keep it running too long with the starting fluid.

This is the MAP Sensor. The vehicle WILL NOT run until it is hooked up. You need to connect a vacuum hose from the intake to the nipple in the red circle.

Guess we have a contender, a MAP sensor absolutely needs vacuum. If the installation is using a Barometric Absolute Pressure sensor it does not and cannot be connected. Original thread starter, find a vacuum schematic for the year involved, I realize its 26 years ago, there has to be someone with the proper manual. Am remembering the EVTM published for Ford by Helm Inc.

The port on the carb, doesn't that go inside the carb throat? Believe it was a source of filtered air for some device on the air cleaner, a bimetalic temperature switch, which then led to some other contraption. Have never professed to be a tune man, just remembering disconnecting hoses while removing the air cleaner. Good luck.

Ditto:
Now that you mention that Bill I remember them too. The hose hooks to what looks like a vaccum diaphram thingy inside of air cleaner.

I believe you are correct on the hose from the carb to the breather. The MAP sensor uses vacuum from the manifold block if I remember. Any good vacuum source from the intake manifold will work as long as the hose is the correct size. It needs to be the same size from the MAP sensor to the intake source. It is a larger diameter hose. The local dealer would probably have the vacuum schematics. That would help you quite a bit to have that.

Ok pics up tomorrow night. I connected a vacuum hose from the sensor in the pics to the only other vacuum port of the same size that wasn't used already.. it was in a vacuum splitter or "t" which had a vacuum line going to the vacuum t on the intake below the carb. I got it to start tonight and run for about 2 minutes, accelerator floored and it was just barely sputtering, but at least running. it then proceeded to die. After that I couldn't even get it to start again, just turning and turning but never starting. Would the choke being set up wrong keep it from starting?
