Foaming transmission fluid
1986 F-150 302
I typically check my transmission fluid level with the engine running and at operating temperature. This time, the fluid look like it had foam in it and came half way up the entire dipstick. It had a good red color and does not smell burnt. Any thoughts? I've never ran into this before on this vehicle.

Pinkish red (like a strawberry milkshake) would be moisture (probably coolant from the rad heat exchanger).
If that's it it would be very bad. Moisture inside the tranny will delam your clutches in record time.
So if it's pink you need to fix the issue and get a complete flush of the entire system and hope you caught it in time.
Don't know what else could make it foam unless it's way overfull.
Either way, a transmission rebuild can cost a good part of 2 grand or more; you might want to get it to a tranny shop right away - foam is not normal.
