I went and got a vaccum gauge now. Where is the best spot to hook it up. I have absolutely no idea where to put it. I looked at the diagrams for the vaccum lines and am still lost... Some people said to hook it up by the pcv valve. Under the hood is spaghetti! Way to many hoses and wires. Someday I will remove all of the smog crap.

If it is to be permanently mounted I would look for a point near the base of the carburetor at the intake and tee in there.

Vacuum is created by the airflow throwing through the carburetor being sucked in by the engine so all vacuum lines originate at the carburetor. The vacuum pressure should be the same anywhere (if you don't have a leak in the line you hook it up to) but avoid hooking it up after any vacuum switches or other inline devices because some of them don't turn on the vacuum until certain conditions are met (temperature, vacuum pressure, positive line pressure, etc). That means an unmolested line that attaches to the carb directly (or the vacuum distribution node is good too). Said differently, the closer to the carb the better.

Now that everything is getting sorted out with my truck, I have a new question. Will a grille guard from a 1987-91 ford fit on my 86 bumper? I saw this one great condition one on a ford that is for sale in my small town. It even has the bolt on headlight covers so I can choose.

I'm seeing 2 bumper bolts on the 1986 vs 1 bumper bolt on the 87+. The bumper looks shaped differently too. I'm thinking it won't work without some modifications.

Look at both of your Bullnose bumpers then look at the bricknose bumper....
not without serious modification. By the way, this should be in a new thread.

Got a new edelbrock 1406 for the truck. Will be replacing the intake gasket when doing carb swap. Hopefully that fixes it all. If the grille guard is able to fit without insane modification its good enough for me. Hard fo find now. Still have to go to my local 4x4 junkyard to check out for what they have.
