Cranking, but no cab noise. Fuel pump? Electrical?
Hey guys!
Finally dropped my engine in. 1986 302 block into an 1984 F150 4x4 4 speed manual (I think the t-18)
Here's where I'm at...
I turn the key to the on position and only my e-brake warning light and radio come on. Dash lights too. There's no noise in the cab though. That buzzing sound isn't there.
My slave cylinder is not attached right now, but I hit the clutch to the floor and turn the key and it cranks. Sounds hungry for fuel.
So then I filled up the carb bowl vent with about 10 oz. each of gas and it turned over nice. Was running for about 10-15 seconds. Stuttering a little but running. I haven't locked my distributor in place yet. But also don't have someone right now to help me turn it and adjust.
Can't find my throttle bracket either, but I pulled it back by hand and no gas was shooting out.
Sounds like a fuel pump problem right? Before I go ripping that off and replacing it is there anything else I can do? The lack of cab noise and rest of the lights makes me think I'm missing something else.
I got three wires going to the alternator. One to the left side of the solenoid (battery side) one to the voltage regulator and one to the positive on the battery. My starter is grounded. My block is grounded. I don't see any loose wires as of now.
I'm also not sure where to hookup my electric choke so that's not connected as of yet.
Let me know if some pictures would help diagnose. I could really use your guys' expertise right now! Thank you in advance!
Oh also, my battery is almost dead now from trying to crank it. Gotta go grab some jumper cables.
And last note, holy hell it's hard to find a throttle cable bracket. Jeez. Why is it so expensive? Any body know what would work on mine and where to find it? 1406 edelbrock.

Cranking/turning over with manual fuel:
Yes, sounds like a fuel pump. The manual pumps on the carb'd engines are cheap and easy part to replace. To test it, disconnect fuel line to carb and crank the engine. If it pumps out fuel, you're good.
No buzzing/lights in cab:
Check fuses. Sometimes people remove the bulbs so you can check that too. Ignition switch sometimes sticks in forward position (turn it back to "ON" after cranking). This happened to me a few times and the turn signals wouldn't work, no power in the cab, etc. Lastly, my headlight **** doesn't work too well for dimming the cab lights and even after changing the dash bulbs, are not very bright. I can only tell they're on when it's dark so make sure it's dark when you try turning back and forth.
As for the buzzing sound, I never get a buzzing sound. Was this for newer vehicles (90+)? My pickup doesn't warn me about nothing. If I leave the lights on, so be it. I must've wanted them on. The only light I see after starting is the seat belt light.

When you cycled the throttle to check the pump was it still running and are you pulling fuel from the fuel tank? I ask because if you were just using the few ounces you put in the fuel bowl there may not have been enough left in the bowel for the pump to inject. Also if the floats are not set right the valve in the fuel bowel will not stay open long enough to fill to the proper level again not having enough fuel in the fuel bowel to use the accelerator pump on the carburetor to inject fuel.
