Crack in my transmission/grinding noise when i give it gas
Is this ok?
My truck is a 1976 F-150 4x4 with a factory 360. I don't know what the transmission is. The picture shows a crack very close to where the transmission connects to the engine.
I didn't think it would be a problem but I was driving yesterday at around 45mph, I gave it some gas to pick up speed and there was loud grinding noise coming from the transmission area. I tried accelerating at low speeds and it did the same thing. it doesn't seem to do it all the time though.....
Also when I take it easy and just drive it makes no weird noises and shifts fine. I have receipts from the previous owner of recent transmission work. anybody know what the problem is or can you share a link that will help me out. thanks!

i did mine 3 times in one weekend... reason for that being i got used ones... first one was cracked, then i tried swapping parts into my old one, it was cracked too after i beat it off my tranny, third time was the charm but i had to swap out the yoke from my old tcase.. i did this all by myself without lifting the rig or using a transmission jack etc, just have to be comfortable installing u-joints, and make sure you mark your drivelines so you put them back in the same alignment.
but maybe get another opinion before relying on my guess

I'm still working on this problem. here is what i have found. when i lock the hubs i dont hear any noise. my assumption was that when the hubs were in the unlock position they were not fully releasing and causing the random grinding noise. so, i replaced the hubs with warn premium hubs. that didnt fix the problem. my next question is, could their be a problem with the part-time 4wd kit located in the transfer case that it would need to be replaced?
