You have the infamous feedback carb, that part is a solenoid that the computer opens and closes to richen or lean the mixture based on what the oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold is telling it

Default Mine was unplugged and caused the cat to die

My solenoid was unplugged for years when in ID...brought back to CA it had to pass smog again. It failed three times while I was sorting out the years of incompetent out of state mechanics that had no idea of emission systems.

One of the main problems was the unplugged feedback solenoid and that caused the truck to run rich and ruin the cat....$$$ later and now all is fine.

The solenoids do work well, the trucks gets better mpg at higher altitudes than at sea level and will perform properly now all the way to 9000 feet.

Ok thank you guys... It's not hooked up as we put the new carb on last week.. It runs fine but not quite perfect so ill assume it's that.. Prob is the old carb had no plug for that solenoid it was just the two wires spliced into the two wires on the truck.. So I'm not sure which is which to reconnect the new one.. Any ideas? Is it just transmitting information or is this a positive negative situation? Thanks!
