Getting ready to replace intake manifold gasket. Sizeable leak on the back side. So much air that I can completely block off the intake and it keeps running.
So yeah... Saturday project. Doing the valve covers while I can get to both.
Anything else I should do while I have the intake off?

Thanks. I'm hoping it's not bad.
I got a can of Ford blue to freshen up the covers so at least there'll be something to show off under the hood lol.

V8? I would change every vacuum line as well. Then do a tune up. You are doing a big job by removing the intake.
New plugs, wires, PCV, vacuum lines etc..
Also SINCE you have the intake off, I would do some preventative stuff. Check for wobble on the water pump. If any is noticed on the snout, then replace that as well. Also complete a really good radiator check, be sure to look inside the tanks. If you have crud, might worth bringing it to a rad shop and having it cleaned.
All of this stuff would be great to do if you have the coin. One thing my family does not do is maintenance. They are reactive only it breaks they fix. They asked my why I was replacing the timing belt in my wife's car when it wasn't broken. Help keep that truck running and running right.
P.S. I'd love to see some pictures of the gaskets when you get the intake off.

You can see where the gasket was installed wonky. Not from me taking it off, there's a bolt hole in the old gasket in the wrong place. Probably never ran right since that.
Not as bad as I thought they could be.

Arg. Now she doesn't want to start. Starter just spins. Pulled it and had it tested last week cause I thought it was going bad. Tested ok, but apparently autozone doesn't put any kind of load on it. Just power.
Pulled it again, turned the crank all the way around and checked every tooth. All good there.
Did start twice after I reinstalled everything though. Had to snug up valve covers. Went to start 3rd time to check timing and didn't happen.

Replaced starter drive, but I may have a short in the starter. Sort of put it back together in the rain...
Definitely need a ring gear though. This is the spot where the starter spins freely.
