Default 86 carb inline six won't run

I recently picked up a short bed 4 X2 and it ran like crap so I started replacing every thing g I could on it. I went to swap the distributer and when I put in the new one the truck wouldn't run. So I put the old one back in and still nothing. Advance retard nothing seems to work. I've swapped plugswires the coil the cap and the rotor and still nothing even the modules don't seem to fix the problem is the any thing I'm missing because I've got spark and I've got back fire but the truck still won't run

are you sure you got your plugs back on in the right order? the firing order is stamped on the intake, find tdc and match up #1 on the distributor and make sure it's all correct

I think I figured it out when I pulled the distributer I didn't put it in the right way. I put the engine at tdc and the rotor pointed at cylinder 4 instead of 1 I pulled the distributer and turned it till it seated in the position where the rotor button pointed to the number 1 cylinder. I'll let you guys know how it runs when I get my battery recharged

turning it 180 isnt a bad idea, its possible you have it on the wrong stroke

.x 2 on the possibility of being 180 out.... Also those carbs were natorious for shaking loose , try twisting the carb to see if it moves at all..But first you`ll have to get the dist back in correctly

Well I was 180 but my timing marks weren't right either I put a soft plastic rod down number one and turned it till it stopped moving up and the made the distributer do a 180
