'78 f150 custom engine rebuild
Im looking for help finding like a how to manual to rebuild my dads f150 custom. It has a 351 under the hood. I would appreciate any comments or help.

Well...
I agree, the Haynes manuals are the best AND you can get a Haynes engine rebuild manual from them for your application. Not sure how deep you are or how well versed on the truck you have but I can tell you if the motor came from the factory that's in it it is a 351 'm' 335 series. It is sometimes referred to as a 351 modified 400. People mistake the m for modified but it's just a model designation. It's a Cleveland block with longer pushrods and different heads. It's an in between motor that Ford ingeniously crafted for it's 78-79 trucks to meet the governments fuel mileage requirements and still keep the power of a big block. Correctly rebuilt and well tuned these monsters have lots of low end torque and decent hp for stock. I would advise you to keep the mods low though, stick with a mild cam, and if you go to a 4 barrel stay at or under 650cfm and as long as you keep your foot out of it you will actually get better gas mileage than the stock 2 barrel. I know these things from experience but I am about to attempt my first complete rebuild on a 351 m myself so we can trade notes as we go along, lol.
