68 f100 inline 6 300 build up (transmission help)
I am doing some work to my old f100 so I can take it up to Wyoming in March with me for school. It has a 3 speed manual in it now. The old 3 on a tree set up. Well I have a 3 speed automatic in my 79 f100. 302sbf. With it having 11 years difference how much trouble would I run into putting the 3 speed auto in?
I also have a 5 speed transmission out of a 95 f150 behind a I6 300. Would that work better that the 3 speed auto? My main goal is gas mileage and torque conversion to the back tires at lower speeds and being able to cruise on the highway at 65+

The 5spd would help loads. But its intensive. In 80-83 somewhere in there they went to a hydraulic clutch. You would need to source the pedal assembly , mc, hydraulic lines, etc. would be a summer project or probably a week of work. You could cut to tranny tunnels out and swap them over maybe. The auto shouldnt be too tough.
