A cam, and a set of headers would be a good place to start. Then maybe an intake manifold and carb.
Then go for the heads.

i got a price its bout 5500 to do my engine i dunno over 500 foot pounds of tourqe from crank
but only thign they want is heads and block they priced a 502 stroker, comp cam, valves, comp rockers and push rods, carb, distrubter, there goin to port and polish my stock heads since new heads would put it over 8 grand and my buget cant handle that much right now cause i gotta buy boggers as well
but ya think thats a good deal? they do everything from bair block and heads everything else just get in and turn the key ?

Default summit

my dad has built a few 460s and u can get alot of powr. we invested in the performer rpm manifold and cam kit from summit. its fairly cheap and a set of headers made it a beast. heads would prolly be good for a later investment, just be careeeful with the pushrods on a biggr cam. its all up to you tho just throwin it out there. good luck and keep us updated.

I would invest in heads first. They are the weakest link in the 460, well that and the oiling (if you spin over 6000 rpms). If you can pick up a good set from a 69-70 429 you will be set. However, if you spend $500 on a good set of cast heads and then have them rebuilt you will be just a few hundred under a good set of aluminum heads.

Get a dual duration cam. The exhaust side of the heads are horrible and this will kind of make up for it.

Good heads, cam, and intake will easily make 500 hp with the stock rotating assembly.

Go to www.460ford.com, those guys know all about making big power with a 385 series engine.

I miss my big blocks. 70 galaxy XL and 72 Torino fastback.
