Default 4 amp draw!

86 302 4 speed. KOEO I have a 4 amp draw on the battery. Went through all the interior fuses and none of them were the culprit. Anyone else have this problem? It is a fairly recent development. I haven't done any electrical work and it is a bare bones rubber floor no headliner model.

unplug the regulator plug on the alternator, the one with 3 small wires. 4 amps is about what the rotor draws. A problem in the alternator will sometimes keep the regulator turned on with the engine off but still charge the battery.

A broken ignition switch can also give you a draw. If you remove the alternator plug and you still have a draw then look at the ignition switch. The ignition switch (and alternator) is fed by a fuse link not a fuse. The fuse link is connected to +12 battery at the starter solenoid. Yellow wire after the link.

A partially broken switch can leave something on such as the ignition system.
You can install a switch between the solenoid and link as a temporary measure to keep your battery from draining.
