Default 2000 explorer 5.0 swap into 86 f150 tune

So I swapped engine from a 2000 explorer into my 86 f150 and I kept trucks intakes and other things it needed to work. It runs pretty well and I've done the timing a few times cause not sure exactly where it needs to be with the f150 computer and explorer roller cam and gt40p heads. I was wondering if maybe it needed to be tuned because of those things or if it was just that I need to find the sweet spot for the timing or if I should just say screw it and go carb but that brings up the kick down cable dilemma. Any opinions/help welcomed.

Old school, we'd advance the timing till it started to ping under load and back it off a hair.
Or maybe a custom ECM designed for that motor is really the way to go.

I thought about getting a chip for it but am not sure where to get one or more so who would make one for this setup. Thought about calling bama tunes the guys that do mustang tunes and seeing if they could come up with something.

Check Baumann engineering. I think they have stand alone computers for tranny's so maybe custom ECM's too. You won't have been the first guy ever to do that swap, so something is probably available somewhere - you just gotta find it.

if your looking for performance, cant beat a custom chip. if you want it to run as well as it can with what you have, do like they said, advance timing till ping then back down. you can use a vacuum gauge to do that as well

Default Think I figured the problem out

So after some research I figured out the MAP sensor is probably keeping my engine from running right considering I have gt40p heads and a different cam now with the explorer engine. So my question now is if i get a chip with a good tune on it will with fix this or will it not work?
