The best place to have the tranny fluid and filter changed is in your driveway. Just pull the pan.

If you have an AOD, make sure to check the color of the fluid before you change. if it is yellow, DON'T change the fluid, if you do, it might not go into gear at all. if it does have bad fluid, its best just to get it overhauled.

Thats just a little known fact about AOD's. They will last a very long time and not turn yellow if the fluid is changed every 25,000 miles. but most people dont change it at all, then when the car gets 150,000 miles, the old fluid has lost most of its lubricating ability. i dont know exactly why it turns yellow, but i know that when it does, the fluid is not lubricating the internal clutches, and the clutches just rub against each other and shave off the friction material. by the time the fluid becomes yellow, it has already worn off pretty much all of the friction material. the only reason the tranny keeps working after this is because of the clutch material left over in the fluid is circulating through the system acting as a "sort of" clutch, providing friction for the worn out clutches. if the fluid is changed at this point, all the left over shavings are gone and since the new fluid has no clutch material in it, the worn out transmission clutches cannot create any friction. as far as i know, only Ford AOD's do this.
