I have a 84 f150 in line 6 auto 71,000 + or - miles the emissions was all messed up from p.o. all of that mess is gone now including the carb , carb was replaced with reg carb from a 79 f100 runs a lot better but needing to replace the dist have a electronic dist from ford but here is where im screwed been told that this dist needs a duraspark brain box ????? but others have said the one I have would work fine just install it but the dist from ford has 3 wires coming out of it , where does this plug into maybe the brain box that I don't have? the guys at my local auto parts are just kids an they don't have a clue hope someone has the insight to help me,this truck has been in my family since new an don't want to junk it with only71 k its worth saving.

Which V6 do you have 3.8 or 4.6? If you have the correct replacement it should be plug and go. Might have gotten the wrong one. Sounds like you definitely have the wrong part, but it also could be that you are saying that the previous owner changed the distributor to a non-ford part and therefore removed some necessary ford parts. Either compare what you've got to the lmc link posted or post a picture or two to help us help you.
