Question 1983 SWB 38 Gallon Fuel Tank Install

I just picked up my first F-150 yesterday and it needs a fuel tank.. not as in the old one leaks but as in it doesn't have one at all... I was looking at the ones that rockauto / lmc / advance / auto zone / ect.. has listed and they all show that a 38gal one will fit but install notes it after the axle.. Anyone here have any experience with installing the F26D tank in a 7th Gen SWB F-150? I only found one thread (forgive me on another forum) here but it wasnt for the same generation. Also attached is my current fuel tank setup.

Where is your fill door? Short bed should be a 16gal mounted longways just inside the drivers frame.

correct... but I didn't know if I could install it and just get a longer fill neck or put in one behind the tag.. I know I wouldnt be able to keep the spare under the truck anymore but I don't keep them there anyways as I've always carried it in the back of the truck.

Its possible i guess. You will have to find the correct diameter fill hose, they dont make stock ones that long. Some say you can get marine grade by the foot but it may get pricey, extend the wiring and fuel lines. It would take some time and a bit of expense but you could do it.

Ill look into the marine grade hose..there are a few marinas in the area I could go check some out at and if it looks like itll work out I can look around online for maybe a cheaper dealer of the stuff
