1977 shifter question
Recently purchased a 77 Ford ranger xlt 4x4 automatic. The column shifter and indicator has been broken off and replaced with a floor shifter that uses a cable system to change the gears. I obviously would like to put the column shifter back on and have it change the gears and remove the floor shifter. How much work would that entail? Or would I be better off taking it to a mechanic? Also, what parts would I need? Thanks

Is the shift linkage still on the bottom of the column? (look under the hood below the master cylinder). Depending on how much was removed/broken will determine how much it will cost to relocate it back to the column. From your description you will need a shift arm, indicator window, and pointer which is attached of the shift arm housing.
here is a links to some parts

As far as the shift arm and linkage under the truck I think if it is missing you will need to look at a salvage/U-Pull-it yard

If the collar that the shift lever attaches to is broken, my guess is finding another collar will be the hardest part ot the job. There may be a reason somene installed the floor shifter.
