Default 1974 f250 trouble

1974 f250 with a 360 engine(2 barrel)i love the truck.
Butttt the spacer plate under the carb is blown out on the side,my guess the carbon build up from the egr.
Any ideas where i can find this plate.ive tried newer models, nope dont work, tried carlisle pa,nope.
Everybody must of threw them away when they redid their motors.

Originally there was no spacer plate there. The engine apparently had heat issues which is common for this series of trucks and the cure was to insulate the carb from the heat via a spacer. It kept the gas from boiling in the carb. I built one for my FE using thin aluminum plating and gasket material. I didn't see where you live but doing this can cause icing issues if you live up north and use it during the winter.

Thats very interesting,in my younger days i was in to small block chevys, never saw a spacer plate,i figured in this 1974 it was the beginnings of the emission age and this was the start of the egr valve.that explains some of the sites this plate was made out of wood, however it needs to 1"thick for carb clearance of the manifold.

If it has to have the spacer for clearance, it is the wrong carb/linkage. The 360 originally only came with a 2 barrel in the F series. From memory, it should be an Autolite 2100 2 barrel that was a 600 cfm carb. If it is something else, it's been jerry rigged. Doesn't mean it won't work though but you'll have to either build a spacer or get the right carb. The linkage should be just a snap on ball to the drivers side. If it is different, you probably need to use the same carb and build a spacer. Since yours is made of wood, obviously you don't live where it gets cold otherwise icing would be an issue during the winter. If it has the iron intake, a lot of the carbs would boil the gas in the bowl and a decent idle was impossible. A lot of the builders cured this by not punching the gaskets at the riser in the manifold and drilling a 1/8" hole on one side only. If it is an aluminum intake, it was common for a rebuilder to not punch the gaskets at all attempting to keep as much heat from the carb as possible. Just for fun, you might check the classified ads at Hemmings Motor News for carb parts and spacers.

Here's some info. The thick spacer may have been used to warm the carb even if you don't have hoses going to it.

The spacer was there for the EGR....the aluminum ones would eat out inside and there was a TSB and recall on them. I know I had a '73 with 360 2bbl. and went thru this whole scenerio.
Would it be possible to have one machined at a shop?

here's some info for you that was written in the link. I hope this will help you

Summit Racing, or Jegs has the Phenolic spacers.
I found spacers at Autozone and Pep Boys as well.
Then of course any speed shop in your area will have them too.
