Default Wrong rear differential lube

Is there a special procedure for cleaning out your differential if the wrong oil has been used in it or can it just be drained and refilled with the right stuff. I've got a 2000 f150 4.2 4x4 5speed. Not sure which rear end it had either. Any help would be appreciated

gear oil. Later found out it calls for synthetic and some additive.

Just drain and fill with the correct stuff. I would wager as long as it's a decent quality dino gear oil you'd be just fine leaving it, however it would be a good idea to use what's recommended by Ford!
