Did you clean your maf ? Are you running a tuner?

Default Noooo...

Don't touch that sensor! Internally it should have two tiny and very fragile wires - get some "Mass Airflow Sensor" cleaner (CRC makes some - grey bottle I think), and just *spray* clean those things, hit it over and over inside that little hole and outside on the body - just don't spray the stuff into the electric clip. If you damage the wires, it can be an expensive part to replace (try $168 for mine - ouch).

It is like an alcohol based spray, so it drys very quickly but be (sure* that it is dry when you put it back in the air cleaner. You will likely need a T20 star wrench to unscrew the MAS (at least that is what I needed for my 2005 Lariat). Treat it like a fragile wafer of goodness, and you will be fine.

Just as a precaution, disconnect the battery before spraying (I've been told.)

You don't have to disconnect the battery just make sure the ignition key is in your pocket, that way you know the engine control system is off.

Does the engine/maf run fine with a non K&N air filter?

I've been told that the oil based lubricant used with K&N filters can over time gum up the MAF sensor wires. Cleaning the MAF is a good idea, but I would recommend getting rid of the K&N all together. For the small HP it provides it is not worth it.
