Default Transmission trouble

I need some transmission advice:
On the way home from work the other day, my brother's truck started blowing smoke out of the rear. After stopping at a service station I discovered that the transmission was pouring out fluid between the bellhousing and motor. So he got it towed to my house and I pull the transmission out and inspect everything in the bellhousing(ie; torque converter, front pump, front seal, and the shaft) Nothing appears to be broke or worn. The front seal feels harder than what it should be, but before I put this thing back in I want to make sure that's all it is. I have read articles about these transmissions having an overheating/burping problem that is a sign of a bad transmission, but all of the ones I read occured while the truck was idling. If anyone has any idea or experience with this same scenario please let me know. The truck is a 2000 F150 2wd ext cab 4.6 automatic. The transmission has a 14 bolt transmission pan that says metric. I believe it's a 4r70w. Thank you all for your time.
