So we have no definitive oil we should be using? Does anyone know if Ford worked with any oil manuf when producing any of these motors?

I'm asking because there is a definitive oil I should be using on my BMW M3 e46 - Castrol TWS 10W-60. Castrol worked hand in hand w/ BMW in developing the s54 motor and no other oils should be utilized in that beast! NONE!

Just wondering if the same may or may not have occured with my '13 V8 FX4

If you are looking for OEM brand, go with motorcraft. Motorcraft is the company Ford uses for its brand. I just recently did an oil change on my 03 and used a MC filter and oil. Price was pretty reasonable also for synthetic blend. Otherwise, you're fine. These motors aren't specific on oil brands though most of us do go with synthetic/synthetic blend.

For $50 at the dealer, I can get an oil change with the MC synth blend oil, a MC filter, AND a tire rotation. I used to do oil changes with Mobil 1 myself, which cost me about the same, and I had to do the work and deal with the mess (disposing old oil etc,...). I also noticed my 5.0 doesn't use a drop of the MC oil, but did use a little with Mobil 1 synth in it.

Kinda a no brainer for me.

Yeah, what's the point when you have all the extra work and waste to deal with? Plus, if you screw it up, who pays for the seized engine? Getting them to do it alleviates that worry as well.

Not that the risk of failure is high, but it's always possible!

Also, if they screw up, you aren't left out to dry!

Mobile 1 oil and filters for me. I usually buy a few oil changes worth when it goes on sale. My only concern with taking it somewhere is that I knew a buddy who used to work at a shop and they would only drain 1/2 the old oil out to try and save money. Then they would put on used oil filters to save money too. He said they used to not even change the filters until a guy put a mark on it before he took it in and caught them when the same filter was still on. Then they just starting cleaning off old ones to stop that. At least when I do it myself I know it's being done right.

I'm using mobil 1 0w40 now. I have read a lot about how awesome it is and then I saw it at walmart for $22 a jug. Had to try it! So far it seems pretty awesome for a 40 grade. I don't have decreased mpg like I did with the castrol 5/40 and i really can't tell the difference between it and a 30 grade. I think I'm goin to stick with it
