Undercoating to prevent rust
What are some experiences out there with salt and suspension/frame rust? Is it worth it to pay for an undercoating, just wash it frequently, or periodically spray a 'Fluid Film' or 'WD-40' type of product? Also, does Ford already treat the underside of their new trucks at the factory?

My '02 FX4 had some sort of a rubber-like undercoating applied to it at one point (first owner lived in NY state). It is mostly gone and the rust is pretty significant for a truck with 52k miles. I'm planning on having it undercoated before next winter, as it is almost a must-do at this point if I want to get another 100k-150k miles out of it. We use road salt almost exclusively here in WV while other states use a brine solution that I hear is harder on vehicles than road salt/cinder combination.
No idea what it will cost, I'd imagine a good power washing up on a lift for starters and maybe a some kind of a rust control primer before the under coating. I don't have the equipment nor access to such so I'll have to go to a local body shop.

I'm thinking I'm going to go the do-it-yourself route.
I have a gas powered high pressure washer that will let me get the underneath of my vehicles really clean, then dry with a leaf blower, followed by one of the Eastwood products.

Total cost per vehicle should be no more that $100.00, probably less than $150.00 for two. I can live with that!
