Default possible engine/tranny problem???

I have an 05 4.6L screw, with right at 102,000 miles on it. In say probably about the last 10,000 miles, the engine has been idling real low, around 550-600 rpms. Also when I strain the engine, it wants to die out, say I'm back into a parking spot and cut the wheel all the way, it dies out. It has also died on me while towing a trailer. Are these warning signs to a bigger problem coming, or does anyone have any experience with these problems?? Thanks for the help!!

You could have one simple thing wrong that may take replacing several things to find it! first replace the fuel filter then use some throttle body cleaner to try and get the idle up and smoother. If that does not atleast improve it I would check you plugs and coils to make sure they are in good condition.
Good luck,
Bill

Thanks Biliam, I know my fuel filter is fine, it only has about 8,000 miles on it, and i replaced my plugs at 80,000, so I think they should be fine, but I will try and clean the throttle body, thanks a lot for the help!!

I believe that there is a engine speed sensor hooked into the power steering system. It's purpose is to up the idle speed a little when there is a strong load on the power steering system. Maybe there is a problem with that sensor.

Have the engine codes checked, sounds like the IAC is in need of attention. The IAC (idle air control) is what adjusts idle speed per instructions from the computor. Yes, there is a P/S switch that tells the computor about the extra load from turning but its the IAC that does the task.
