Default Truck died on way to work help please

I started the truck this morning and everything seemed fine. I got about 3-5 mins down the road and check engine light started to flash another 2-3 mins passed and I noticed it was started to slow down then wouldn't gain any speed acting like it had lost power then another min or two and it died and left me on the side of the road and wouldn't fire back up. Any ideas on what could cause this problem or what I should look for when I get off work and back to my truck?

Well it has been surging periodically while accelerating and giving a lean code. This morning everything fired up fine then while driving not even a half mile from the house it started the flashing of engine light and kind of making a bogged down noise so I gave it gas and it jumped into lower gear and rpms went up but didn't gain any speed to speak of then I let off and a minute later i gave it gas and it didn't drop a gear or raise rpms and still seemed bogged down. I went about another 100 feet and noticed the truck had shut off i pulled over and tried to start it up again and it started but then shut off. I tried to crank it over about 5 more times and it was acting like it wasn't getting gas.

Year, engine, and mileage please... Mileage is less important, but we for sure need year and engine to be able to offer any assistance at all.

Fuel pump? Bad gas? Clogged filter?

When were the spark plugs replaced? Sounds like what mine was doing the first time the plugs were bad.
