Default Blown Spark Plug

I developed that ticking sound in my 2001 Triton 4.6L engine on cylindar three about two and a half weeks ago. On Friday, August 29th that cylindar spit out the spark plug and broke the COP. Wish I had know about that symptom! Good luck!

Default "POP" goes the Triton

The ejections of spark plugs is WORSE during warm weather than during cold weather. My plug blew when I was near Houston in late May. It was a very warm day.

I am going to route a duct of ram air to the back of my engine to see if that won't help get some cooler air to the back of my engine compartment in my E-350 Ford van. I suspect the van has a higher build-up of hot air in the cowled-in engine compartment than a pick-up, but needless to say, it certainly seems like hot weather exacerbates this problem.

Default Found On Roadside Dead

I have a 2003 F-150 w/ Triton V8... Purchased new Dec 2002. Started hearing noises around 30500, sort of sounded to me like it might be something lifter related but definitely internally... would make this noise towards end of acceleration but would quite down after reaching the shift. At first was not as noticable during every act of accelerating so was the case when I orriganally took in for an oil change which I received every 3000 (or so) from the ford dealership where I had purchased the piece of... the truck. They test drove and reported that there was no noise detected. It started making the same noise more often around 43000. I was driving it one day when I noticed that at a red light the engine sort of fluttered a bit and so I turned off AC and it just did not seem to be acting the same so I remained on the service road and pulled off into a gas station parking lot and just as I was coasting in it died. I tried to restart and it sounded like crap so I called my roadside service and had it towed to the dealer where I purchased. Two days later I am told that some bearing spun off the crankshaft or something like that and I was going to need to replace the engine... I could not believe it, it only had 46,000 on it and I had every record to prove that it had had all oil changes but they had no explanation for me except that these things happen sometimes... my extended coverage I had purchased covered all but 1300.00 of a remanufactured motor (another triton V-8) and when I suggested to ford that I felt that they should cover the balance due to the low mileage, of course no joy for me with that. Ford immediatly told me truck was too old and that I need to let them know what I was going to do because they had other engines to replace and that if I took too long I would loose my posistion in the rotation. So it sounds as though I am not the only sucker with this type of problem. Does this situation sound familiar to anyone else with this type of engine.

When I idle the sound is soft and fairly quiet. I have put around 1000 miles on since I got the truck and it has made this sound since I have owned it. Under the hood with a stethiscope the noise seemed to be coming from the drivers side of the engine back towards the firewall. I have pulled all the plug wires one at a time trying to narrow down a cylinder but the noise stays even throught that process. I am real confused because the truck still runs great aside from this obnoxious noise, something is not ok. I am wondering if anyone has any similar symptoms or some clue as to what this could be. Thank you

I have an 05 f 250 that has the same ticking but mine sounds like it is coming from near the bell housing if you climb up under the truck..
couple people have told me it could be the oil pump or the torque converter. but I don't know for sure.

I have had two 99 expeditions with the 5.4l and both have made the ticking noise I have never been able to pen point it, but from my understanding and experience from being a service writer at Ford it is just the nature of the beast. I have had over 160k on my first one that I gave to my father when his Dodge blew up, and I'm at 153k on the one I have now and would not sell this truck until the wheels fall off. Don't even try to give me a 2003 and up expo . I would rather drive a Chevy than those pieces S***.

Just my opinion , but you know what they say about opinions...
