I agree and if I was the first owner I'd have waited until at least 100k which is what I've done on previous vehicles I bought new and or with less than 25k on the odometer, but it was worth it for the piece of mind. Especially since I saw the truck after it was traded in and it was in rough shape. Whoever owned it before me wasn't too keen on maintenance or cleaning.

Default '01 Transmission Question

I've got an '01 SC that I bought 3 years ago from a family friend and was thinking about the trans flush & fluid change. Bought it at 109K, and it now has 134K and I in fact checked fluid tonight when I got to the house. I know original owner, and his son, who I got it from. I can get info about trans services, if any.

With it being 15 years old, and Texas heat, plus trailer towing by the first owner, should I flush/replace fluid and filter?? Fluid color looked great, nice bright red, but it was overfilled, past the top of the hashed marking. I'll get the extra fluid out tomorrow, for sure.

May just drop pan, change filter, and bypass internal cooler, and add an external cooler.

THOUGHTS???

One thing I didn't take a photo of was the filter, which is where most of the....sediment was; I could wipe my finger across it and you'd see the streak. IMO it would be worth a pan drop and filter change simply for the filter change. For me the cost of supplies was around $65, though if I'd wanted to wait I could have purchased the filter online and it would have been closer to $50.

I'm going to drive it for 500 miles and see if my rough 1 to 2 shift cleared up.
