Transmission Fluid Change

Transmission Fluid Change
After researching the proper steps to change the transmission filter and fluids, I came on an article on the 2004 5.4L engine that states the transmission fluids in this engine are "lifetime" fluids that never needs changing. I have 80,000 maintenance-free miles on my F-150. Any thoughts??

What Does "Lifetime" Mean?
I've heard that, but, 80K miles has probably put a lot of gray hairs on that "lifetime" fluid and it may have a foot in the grave. Under the circumstances I'd go ahead and change out the fluid and filter and start afresh with a second life.
As for me, I consider the "lifetime" of any tranny fluid, aside from some of the super and very pricey synthetics, to be 60K miles....and that can be pushing it a bit.
