I'm having problems trying to figure out what you drive, not all Ford's are the same. Help us help you by stating what year, make ,model, engine size, auto or manual trans, and perhaps someone will have an answer.

transfer case
i guess a little info would've helped, its an '03 F-150 4x4, 4.2 engine and theres a bad grinding noie i believe is com ing from the transfer case, i checked the fluid and its fine, i have 2 new CV joints and i cant afford a new transfer case right now and i need to drive the truck, i'm wondering if i can remove the front drive shaft and drive with just 2 wheel drive?

I may be wrong but I think the front hubs are vacuum operated and broken vacuum lines or bad vacuum actuators could be causing the hubs to try to engage causing the grinding noise. Might best let someone else with more knowledge chime in, my memory seems to be fading as I get more gray hairs.

transfer case
the 4 wheel drive works fine, in low and high, it just makes a heavy grinding noise coming from the transfer case, i need to know if i can pull the drive shaft and just run with 2 wheel drive.
